The Most Popular Memorial Day Destinations in 2019

October 20, 2019

It’s here in May, which means Memorial Day – the informal start of summer – is coming soon. Memorial Day is not the biggest travel holiday of the year, and many people choose to travel fast in the area.

Still, this is a hot spot for air travel, and CheapOAir lists the destinations with the most reservations for Memorial Day and the average ticket price for each destination, just in case you are still addicted to the last minute. These figures also show the overall travel costs for this summer (the peak season for air travel) as fares are down compared to the same period last year.

Tom Spagnola, senior vice president of supplier relations at CheapOAir, said: “The average international and domestic airfare prices are at a lower price level at this time of the year before the summer tourist season, and prices are expected to rise sharply.”

Domestic flights: Orlando, New York and Las Vegas top the list, with an average fare to Orlando for less than $300

Internationally: London, Cancun and Mexico City lead the way. Given the reasonable flight times, it makes sense for London to travel quickly from most parts of the East Coast. Overall, the ticket to Memorial Day to Europe is quite reasonable.
